New CEO of Wynnum Manly Seagulls
The Wynnum Manly Seagulls Rugby League Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Hanan Laban as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Laban, a former player and coach with the Seagulls, will begin his role in the new year to prepare for the 2016 Intrust Super Cup season.
The Chairman of Wynnum Manly Seagulls, Scott Thornton, said the club was excited about Laban’s appointment, and the skills he brings to the position to help carry the club into a new era.
“We were very pleased to have such a high number of very well-credentialed and high-quality candidates apply for the position, and we were even more pleased that Hanan emerged to be the best choice as our new Chief Executive,” Thornton said.
“Hanan has a wonderful and genuine passion for the club, and a long association with the Seagulls and rugby league in general over many years and in many varied roles.
“The Board was impressed with Hanan’s vision for the club’s future, his strategic direction, his emphasis on respecting this club’s proud history and his innovative thinking to maintain Wynnum Manly’s culture of success.
“Hanan is a young, dynamic administrator who is best equipped to guide the Seagulls through the rapidly changing rugby league landscape, and to further entrench our wonderful relationship with our sponsors and the community.”
Laban will join Wynnum Manly after five years in the institutional banking sector with Westpac, and brings considerable rugby league foundations to the position from his time as a player and official with Wynnum Manly and the Newcastle Knights.
“I have a passion for the club and its community, and I am incredibly excited at the opportunity to lead the Seagulls in the role of Chief Executive Officer,” Laban said.
“I believe strongly in the core values of the Wynnum Manly Seagulls, and I look forward to working alongside the Board, our sponsors and supporters to achieve our goal of making the club the best that it can be.”
Laban’s appointment is the first official duty of Thornton as Chairman of Wynnum Manly Seagulls RLFC. Thornton was elected club Chairman in November.
He has replaced Rick Green, who stepped down as Chairman after 10 years of distinguished service.
