Thornton moves on as CEO of Seagulls
The Wynnum Manly Seagulls today announced that Scott Thornton is moving on from the role as Chief Executive Officer. Thornton has spent the past 2 years at the club and worked to develop the Seagulls both on and off the field.
“I am proud to have been given the opportunity to lead the Seagulls who I have had a very long association with,” said Thornton. “It has been an exciting time for the club and I know they are going to continue to have success in the future.”
Thornton believes the time is now right for someone else to put their mark on the club and take it to the next level. “I am extremely grateful to all our players, sponsors and supporters who are all part of the Seagulls community. It has been a pleasure working with them all and I can’t wait to catch up with them in the Chook Pen next year.” Thornton will continue in the role until February and take that time to consider which direction he will pursue in the future.
Rick Green, Chairman of the Seagulls said “It has been a pleasure to work with Scott over this last two years. He has brought a unique perspective and skill set to the role with his work previously in the NRL and State of Origin. He has steered the club through some major developments for the competition and the game during his time and I believe he has enjoyed tremendous success with his efforts. He was instrumental in our club’s preparation for the 2012 Grand Final victory and had a great presence as our club said farewell to one of our well loved members last year. On behalf of the board we wish him every success knowing he leaves the club in great shape. I look forward to seeing and hearing him in the chook pen next year.”
